shortfilm on 16mm FENSTER
A short-film called "FENSTER" about the influence of a pandemic on our creativity.
This is a very personal one, while I do believe this can actually apply to so many of us. Covid19 is still even after more than a year a challenge in each and everyone's life. We adapted to certain situations and improved many things in our current way of living. But especially as creatives it is a hardship to live and work in the same space for example. The factor that our bedrooms suddenly turned into studios, that our only human interaction was found in the supermarket and that we became an online version of ourselves was only some of the results of this pandemic.
“FENSTER” was supposed to tell the story of one, but help many by saying it is okay to not being able to keep being inspired and creative during hard times and day like these. No one can be motivated to do work every single day and create non-stop. Live also takes breaks and from time to time our creativity needs to do that do.
The process of this film was very demanding, as it was shot on film. The 16mm camera has been a method of filmmaking I wanted to try for a long time and also chose for this certain project as its special recording aspect would reflect on the narrative of the film. Although the handling of the old equipment seemed easy at first, it took more that one attempt of shooting this piece of work as the first roll that came back from the film lab didn't fulfil my expectations.
"FENSTER" stands for the german word window, talking about looking into other people's windows and looking out of your own window composes one of the main themes of the short. Also the little 16mm frames can be resembled as little windows.

Moodboards and storyboards the most important step for success.
